DIGITAL GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION OPTION ==================================== Option Aims/Objectives & Careers -------------------------------- The Digital Graphic Communication Option teaches the basic concepts, theories, aesthetics, and skills which underlie the new domain of computer graphics and multimedia (multimedia being the integration of text, graphics, sound and motion pictures to convey information, with the emphasis on interaction). It is a unique program providing a thorough grounding in the creative, practical and technical aspects of design and communication training through the use of new electronic media skills and technologies. The Option’s emphasis on a conceptual and integrated design communication approach will enable students to become designers who perceive design as an agent for change and enables them to handle and solve broad or specific design communication problems. By keeping abreast of the latest technological developments and by offering specialised electives in the second and third years, it also aims to produce a diverse group of graduates who are culturally aware, possess practical skills and are at the forefront of the discipline. Students are expected to come into the programme with some artistic experience and enthusiasm for the use of computers for art and design. All applicants who fulfil the basic requirements for admission will be asked to attend an interview and present a portfolio that can demonstrate a requisite level of artistic and graphic skills.
