Option Aims and Objectives
--------------------------

The Broadcast Journalism Option is offered to provide both 
professional and theoretical education for radio or television 
broadcasting.  Students choosing this Option pursue studies in three 
major areas: (1) professional broadcast journalism in which students 
learn the principles and skills of gathering, presenting, and 
production of news and current affairs for radio or television 
broadcast; (2) theoretical foundations of the profession in which 
students develop conceptual understanding of the profession and 
society through legal, ethical, political, historical, economic and 
mass communication theory; (3) complementary studies of society and 
its relationship vis-a-vis broadcast journalism as well as the way 
politics, government, business, and law operate in both local and 
international communities.  In all these areas, emphasis is on Hong 
Kong and China, with, of course, due attention to the international 
context in which both communities operate.  In sum, the Option's 
curricula are designed to complement the University's "whole-person" 
education goal.


Careers
-------

Broadcast Journalism is a fast developing career in Hong Kong and 
around the world.  Graduates find jobs at either radio or television 
stations as reporters, producers or anchorpersons as well as public 
affairs and information functions in corporations.  The development 
of new media technologies, such as satellite and option fiber cable 
communication, open up even more opportunities for graduates with 
solid education in this area.  Graduates can expect to develop their 
careers as broadcast journalists serving both audiences in Hong Kong 
as well as the Pacific Rim countries or beyond.

Ethics, Broadcast Journalism Practicum, Broadcast Journalism 
Internship, Broadcast Journalism Features and Documentaries II.
