CHINA BUSINESS STUDIES OPTION ============================= Option Aims/Objectives & Careers -------------------------------- The China trade or more correctly China business has become a well- defined activity of growing importance in Hong Kong. China's institutional setting, legal frame-work, organizational behaviour, management style and business practices constitute a business environment which is very different from that of the Western world and Hong Kong. Doing business with/in China therefore requires an understanding of China business environment and systematic, distinctive training. The China Business Studies Option is a broadly-based business studies programme with a systematic treatment of the institutional, operational and behavioural aspects of China business. Emphases are placed on the three important aspects of China business studies: 1) the economic, organizational and legal environment, 2) China trade and investment, and 3) integration, which is a common theme running through Seminar in China Business, Strategic Management and the Project. The Option is designed to achieve the following objectives: 1) To provide students with a clear understanding of the economic structure, legal framework, and business environment of China. 2) To equip students with the knowledge required for conducting China business, with special emphasis on marketing and finance. 3) To develop students' ability to integrate the complex dimensions of China business in making informed business and management decisions. 4) To develop students' communication and interpersonal skills, with special focus on Chinese organizational behaviour and Chinese style of management. The China Business Studies Option will prepare students for careers relating to China business in a broad sense, including positions in management, marketing, finance, training, research, consultancy, and so on. Option Curriculum ----------------- The detailed study plan is as follows: Year 1 Principles of Accounting, Introduction to Business, Principles of Management, Mathematics and Statistics for Business, Computer Applications in Business, Principles of Economics, English for Business, Communication in Modern Chinese, and Religion & Philosophy subject. Year 2 Foundations of Chinese Economy, Organizational Theory and Behaviour, Business Organization & Management in China, Principles of Law, Legal Aspects of China Business, Financial Management, Marketing Management, International Business, Business Communications, Religion & Philosophy subject, and one other Elective subject. Year 3 China Trade: Administration & Practice, Foreign Investment in China, Seminar in China Business, Strategic Management, Project, two of the following subjects: China's Foreign Economic Relations & Trade, Financial Institutions & Markets in China, Marketing in China, Marketing Research, and two other Elective subjects. .
