VII. IN-HOUSE TRAINING PROGRAMME 1. The Personnel Office organizes an Orientation Programme for new academic and administrative staff in September every year, and an induction programme for executive/support staff once/twice every year depending on the number of new recruits. In response to the rising development/training needs for the purpose of enhancing staff performance and quality of service, the Personnel Office also conducts appropriate In-house Training Programmes for different staff groups on a regular basis, such as workshops on customer orientation, team work, problem-solving, stress management and performance management. 2. The Centre for Educational Development also runs in-service staff development programmes for staff and graduate students on important aspects of teaching and learning. The Programme on the Practice of Higher Education covers issues such as learning motivation, teaching and learning styles, assessment of learning, evaluation of teaching, research supervision, multimedia learning environment, curriculum development and action learning. To facilitate exchange and exploration, the seminars and workshops take place in small groups and in a friendly atmosphere. The Programme is currently open to all teaching staff to encourage continuous development and sharing of experience between old and new members. In-service faculty development is a requirement stipulated by the University in 1991 to nurture a culture of teaching excellence on campus. For enrolment and information please contact Dr. Jack Chan at Ext. 7231, Miss Wendy Wong at Ext. 5396 or Ms Alice Yip at Ext. 7230. .
