V. COMPUTING AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES CENTRE 1. The Computing and Telecommunications Services Centre (CTSC) is responsible for three major field of services: a. Provision of information technology consulting services. b. Provision of voice telephone, computer data networking and telecommunications services throughout the University. c. Provision of computer operation services for the University community and PC-based applications development for administrative offices. 2. All students and staff members are welcome to use the computer facilities provided by CTSC at Room OEE-702 of Oen Hall Building computing facilities which located across three major campus sites, include a COMPAQ AlphaServer 2100 system, an IBM RISC 6000 server, 29 Novell NetWare Servers, and over 2500 Macintoshes and PCs connected to the campus-wide Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI and ATM Network. All Network Macintoshes and PCs can access Internet services, CD-ROM services and a large number of PC software packages for DOS, Windows 3.1 (English and Chinese), Windows 95 (English and Chinese), UNIX and Mac environments. Output can be printed via different network servers to both high quality laser printers and dot matrix printers. CTSC also provides professional support to computer rooms in various Faculties/Schools throughout the University campus. The supervision of these computer rooms, however, rests on respective Faculties/Schools. 3. General faculty and staff users can have access to all scanners, OMR machines, stand-alone PCs with other specialized software and plotters located in CTSC. Administrative staff users also have access to an IBM AS/400 system. There is another IBM AS/400 system which is mainly used for administrative applications development. 4. The CTSC provides voice telephone and voice mail services via three Rolm 9751 PABXs and an extensive Network system to all offices, classrooms and lecture theatres in all campuses of the University. The CTSC is also responsible for the design and installation of the University-wide video and TV network. 5. Seminars on software packages introduction and on other computing topics are arranged throughout the academic year. In addition, CTSC organizes workshops in the University Life Program for all newly admitted students to brief them on the usage of the University computing facilities for their academic work. 6.
