III. CENTRE FOR EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT The CED's role covers two major areas: (1) services in educational media, materials, equipment and facilities; and (2) development of teaching and learning through training and research, and assistance with curricular development. CED is structured into the following three sections: 1. University teachers have access to the Teaching Development Section for a variety of in-service programmes. The induction programme caters to the needs of new teachers, the teaching/mentoring development camps offer opportunities for reflection and advancement, and the practice of higher education seminars and other workshops provide occasions throughout the academic year for interactions on teaching improvement. Consultations are available to design action learning projects, teaching development grant proposals, research on teaching and learning, as well as classroom studies. In the area of learning support, the CED participates in the University Life (U.L. 1111-2) skills workshops as well as providing support in the mentoring programme. 2. The Academic Media Production Section has substantial equipment and facilities. These include a television production studio, an audio recording studio, and a multimedia development facility. The Section is responsible for providing professional services primarily to University teachers and their academic departments as the means of applying sophisticated educational technology for the enhancement of classroom instruction. 3. The Teaching Support Section is responsible for equipping and servicing some fifty classrooms and lecture theatres designated for University teaching purposes. It has available for loan a variety of audio and visual equipment in support of instruction. These include cassette recorders, photographic equipment, public address systems, tape duplication and editing facilities, overhead projectors, video and data LCD projectors, and close-circuit television systems. There are also self-service teaching aids production stations and individual viewing booths. .
