I. OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT & VICE-CHANCELLOR AND VICE-PRESIDENTS 1. As Head of this institution, the President & Vice-Chancellor is the chief academic and administrative officer of the University. He is responsible to the Council for the internal organization and management of the University in general, and for the development of long-term strategy and external relations at the highest level in particular. The President & Vice- Chancellor is assisted by three Vice-Presidents in the discharge of his duties. 2. The Academic Vice-President (AVP), who is the senior Vice- President, concentrates on long-term strategic academic planning and development; monitoring of academic policies; maintenance of academic policies and academic standards; and quality control of academic programmes. Reporting to the AVP on these lines of responsibility are the Deans of Faculties/Schools and the Academic Registrar. 3. The Vice-President (Research & Support Services) (VPRS) concentrates on resource planning and allocation (except capital development and space allocation); monitoring of the utilization of resource; administration of research and consultancy work; and oversight of academic support services and student services. Reporting to the VPRS on these lines of responsibility are the heads of the Office of Ancillary Services, Finance Office, Library, Computing and Telecommunications Services Centre, Centre for Educational Development, and Student Affairs Office. 4. The Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary (VPAS) concentrates on the development and monitoring of personnel policies; co-ordination of capital development and space allocation; oversight of those administrative services which support the governing bodies (Court and Council); and provision of essential information both for internal management and external reporting relations. Reporting to the VPAS on these lines of responsibility are the heads of the Estates Office, as well as the General Administration and Personnel Offices within the Secretariat. .
