V. THE STAFF ASSOCIATION OF HONG KONG BAPTIST UNIVERSITY 1. The Staff Association of Hong Kong Baptist University was formally registered under the Government's Society Ordinance in April 1988. Endorsed by the University Council, the Association started to function fully in August 1988 after the election of both the Representative Council and the Executive Committee. 2. The objectives of the Association include: a. to work for the progress of the entire University, and for the preservation of its heritage; b. to unite its members with the view to promoting understanding among members of the University; c. to safeguard and promote the interests and welfare of its members; d. to represent its members in voicing their common views on the affairs of the University. 3. All full-time staff at the University shall be eligible for ordinary membership. The administrative period of the Association shall be from 1 August to 31 July of the following year. 4. The Representative Council which is composed of members selected from all groups of staff oversees the affairs of the Association and has the power to: hold all elections and referenda and make such resolutions or policies as appropriate to the object of the Association, whereas the Executive Committee shall be responsible to implement these resolutions or policies. 5. As the Association is still new, there is a need to establish its status and be seen as truly representative. The greatest single contribution a staff member can give is to join the Association and encourages others to act likewise. .
