The Learners' Club and Mentoring Support Service The Learners' Club was established in September, 1991 with two objectives: first is to enable members to improve their thinking and learning skill through participation in different kinds of seminar, workshop and study groups. The second is to help in improving student teacher relationship through a mentoring system. We have about five hundred members every year. The Club located at the west wing of the Oen Hall Building. There are three rooms: the Multimedia Room (W702), the Quiet Room (W703) and the Project Room (W705) which serve different functions. In 1992, we have added a variety of new facilities in the three Club Rooms. We have a mini-library in Room W702 which offers daily newspapers, recent copies of Chinese and English magazines and books which concentrated in three areas: Language Enhancement, Study Skills, Whole Person Education. The Quiet Study Room is situated at Room W703 where club members can read, take notes and work individually. Students who want to discuss a study topic or a project, they can use Project Study Room (W705) which is designed for such purposes. We also organized various club activities during last four years. We had the language enhancement camps, English conversation groups, Putonghua conversation groups, Learners' Salon programs, workshops on successful job applications, special seminars on China, Chinese and English application letters writing workshops etc. Starting from September 1995, we developed a mentoring team to support the academic staffs who voluntarily joined the new student orientation program named University 101-2. Now we have already had ten teachers and two administrative staffs joined the group. The University 101-2 program provided four different skillful lectures for students included Study Skill, Time-Management, Writing Enhancement and Life-Long Planning. We have had above thirty students registered at this program. They come on every Thursday at the noon time and we serve lunch for them. If you want to join us please come to our counter in Room W702 and fill in a registration form. The membership fee for one year is $20 which is used to support the tea-reception expenditure.
