Local External Award ******************** The Hongkong Bank Foundation Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2001/2002 ------------------------------------------------------------------ A maximum of three scholarships with the total value up to HK$676,815 are now open for application for undergraduate students who wish to spend one year of their course of studies at designated overseas universities and return to Hong Kong Baptist University to complete their studies and graduate. The scheme is open to Year I students or Year II students studying Translation and European Studies who meet the following requirements: 1) Hong Kong permanent residents; 2) G.P.A. score of 3.0 or above; 3) well-rounded; 4) in a financial situation which does not permit extensive travel overseas; 5) committed to Hong Kong; 6) minimum TOEFL score of 213 (computer-based test) or IELTS score of 6.0; 7)with majors in certain approved disciplines. Application forms are now available at the Academic Registry. Closing date for application is December 30, 2000 (Saturday). The University will recommend six best candidates to the Bank. They will be invited to attend the Bank's panel interview for selection in March/April. Conditional offers will be made to a maximum of three scholars in April. Confirmation of the scholarship awards will be made no later than July, subject to 1) formal admission by overseas universities; and 2) GPA score of 3.0 or above in the second semester in the academic year 2000/2001. The awards are tenable for three years. Each award will cover tuition fees and a maintenance allowance of 9,000 pounds per annum. Scientific Award from BMW ------------------------- The award is open to university graduates and young scientists. Prizes are awarded in the two categories of doctor's theses and master's theses to the authors of the three best studies submitted for the topic: "Innovations for a Mobile Future". Entrants are not required to write a new study. A final gradate study, which should be written in German, English or French between January 1 1999 to December 31, 2000; can be submitted. A CV and the declaration of participation signed by his/her professor and the entrant are also required. The maximum amounts for the Scholarships are US$25,000 (Single-Year), US$12,000 (3 month cultural) and US$19,000 (6-month cultural). Each year about six Single Year Scholarships are awarded to students from our District. The Single Year Scholarship must be used towards a course which begins at anytime from 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2003. The Rotary Scholarships place more emphasis on the applicant's personality than academic results.
