This directory contains the packed/unpacked source code for 
HDF 4.1 Release 5:

   README    -  This file, telling what is in this directory.

   SOFTWARE.html - A table with links to the HDF4.1r5 software (not
               including the Java HDF Products. See java link below for
               the Java HDF Products.) 

   bin/      -  Contains pre-compiled binaries for UNIX and VMS platforms. 

   java (link) -  A link to the Java Software available with HDF 4.1r5.
                  See the Java HDF4 Products Home page for further details:

   patches/  -  Contains bug fixes to the source.  (NONE so far)

   release_notes (link) - Contains detailed descriptions about new features  
                          and bug fixes. 
               
   tar/  -  Contains compressed UNIX and VMS source code.  
            Users should check the patches/ directory to find out which 
            files have been changed and decide whether or not the patches 
            are needed for their applications. 

   unixvms_precompiled_code (link) - Link to the bin/ directory.

   unpacked/ -  Contains unpacked source code for HDF 4.1r5.
    
   windows_precompiled_code (link) - Link to the the zip/ directory.

   zip/ - Contains HDF Windows NT/98/2000 compressed source code and 
          pre-compiled binaries.

Each subdirectory has a README file explaining which files are 
in the directory and how to use those files.
