Pubmed is a website run by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It's a database of articles from medical journals going back to the 70's. You put in a search term in the search box, and hit Go and articles come up (in chronological order with latest first). Actually the titles of the articles come up. You click on the title and the abstract (summary) of the article comes up. You can only read the abstracts except in rare cases but the abstracts contain the main info of the journal article and are very informative. If you see an article that looks really good, you can hit the "Related Articles, Links" link located on the right side of each article title. I just put "uricemia gout" in the search box, hit the Go button, and 36 articles (actually titles of articles) came up. Here's the website: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?DB=pubmed If you're overweight at all, you definitely should lose that weight. Of course you probably know that but thought I'd mention it anyway. Using Pubmed, you could do a search on things that increase the number of glucose receptors on the cell membranes. Good luck in getting things back under control. Bill > > I decided to compromise and take medication to control the gout. Fans of the Grateful Dead rocker started an online petition Aug. 9, the 10th anniversary of his death, and collected more than 16,000 signatures. But the Postmaster General's Citizen Stamp Advisory Committee met last week, and Garcia didn't make the cut. Why? "That is super-secret," a good-natured Dave Failor, executive director of stamp services, said yesterday. "We don't discuss the reasons why." Well, it can't be because the USPS disapproves of overweight, drug-taking rock musicians. In 1993 the USPS issued the Elvis Presley stamp, which became the best-selling commemorative stamp of all time, with 517 million sold (mostly to collectors) and $36 million profit for the Postal Service. Except for presidents, people have to be dead 10 years before they can appear on a stamp. It's rare to get approval immediately: Actress Audrey Hepburn, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and activist Cesar Chavez all died in 1993, sailed through the selection process, and appeared on stamps in 2003. But more often the answer is no. The 15-member committee rejected the Garcia proposal -- just one of 50,000 ideas submitted for consideration (it recommends 20 to 25 a year) -- and won't take up his name again until next year. Even if he makes the cut, the postmaster general has to sign off. Any Deadheads on the committee? "No one was wearing a tie-dye T-shirt, if that's what you're asking," said Failor. -- Peace, Steve ------------------------------ From: "Mike" Subject: Re: shes gone Date: Thu, 27 Oct 2005 21:16:43 -1000 "JimK" wrote in message news:cld2m1pgevkfhicr7ibepvd3t0ku62h24c@4ax.com... > On 27 Oct 2005 10:02:00 -0700, kpnnews@yahoo.com wrote: > So please give us a hint as to how W is going to stammer and grin his > out of the pickle he's in. Takei told The Associated Press on Thursday that his new onstage role as psychologist Martin Dysart in "Equus," helped inspire him to publicly discuss his sexuality. Takei described the character as a "very contained but turbulently frustrated man." The play opened Wednesday at the David Henry Hwang Theater in Los Angeles, the same day that Frontiers magazine featured a story on Takei's coming out. The current social and political climate also motivated Takei's disclosure, he said. "The world has changed from when I was a young teen feeling ashamed for being gay," he said. "The issue of gay marriage is now a political issue. That would have been unthinkable when I was young." The 68-year-old actor said he and his partner, Brad Altman, have been together for 18 years. Takei, a Japanese-American who lived in a U.S. internment camp from age 4 to 8, said he grew up feeling ashamed of his ethnicity and sexuality. He likened prejudice against gays to racial segregation. "It's against basic decency and what American values stand for," he said. Takei joined the "Star Trek" cast in 1966 as Hikaru Sulu, a character he played for three seasons on television and in six subsequent films. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986. A community activist, Takei ran for the Los Angeles City Council in 1973.
