Simply put, one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Ginger Baker blew the house down with a 15 minute set closer solo. The setlist could not have been better. Bruce attacked bass, mic & harp like a kid and Clapton distorted and crazed riffs made this a true night to remember. If you can, download the dimeadozen torrent for Monday night. It's the real deal. Cream is the original power trio, the original jam band, the best ticket of 2005. Thanks for playing guys. You made for a special evening of music. I tried to get in again last night but the buzz in Manhattan was so strong by the final night that a ticket was not to be had. ------------------------------ From: JimK Subject: (NDC) Jolly Green Giant Gone; May He Forever Rest In Peas Date: Thu, 27 Oct 2005 17:33:01 -0400 Reply-To: jkezwind@comcast.net Another childhood hero lost: Jolly Green Giant Gone; May He Forever Rest In Peas October 27, 2005 The man who made the words "Ho, Ho, Ho" famous is dead. No, not Santa Claus. Len Dresslar, the voice of the Jolly Green Giant in the leafy green toga, who bellowed those three little words from our TV sets all those years, died Sunday at 80 in California. From his voice to our plates. It was easy eating your corn niblets when the Jolly Green Giant was standing there in his valley, hands on hips, looking like he meant business. The giant was designed to commemorate a new kind of pea by the Minnesota Valley Canning Co. of Le Sueur in 1925, but he was a mean old gnome. He got a makeover in the '30s as a green giant, and Dresslar, a broadcaster, gave him his voice in 1959 with "Ho, Ho, Ho, Green Giant!" In his obituary, the Chicago Sun-Times quoted his daughter as saying that the key to Dresslar's long career was his rich booming voice, "bass, very deep." He spoke or sang in commercials for United Airlines, Rice Krispies and Marlboro and Kent cigarettes. And there haven been other talents who portrayed icons like Charlie Tuna, Morris the Cat and the Keebler Elves. But the Jolly Green Giant was the biggest one in the pack. Dresslar left a wife, two daughters, three grandchildren and, of course, "Little Green Sprout." ------------------------------ From: supineinsd@gmail.com Subject: Re: The best stoner movie (NDC) Date: 27 Oct 2005 14:36:31 -0700 A lot of folks mention, 'Holy Grail' but I say go for 'The Life of Brian' when elevated. Damn they're good!!! I was amazed! I watched the interviews at the end of the 2nd DVD. Ginger and Jack are both showing some age in the interviews but when they got on stage, they played as well as they did over 30 years ago. Ginger just plain smokes on those drums!! Tireless, perfect and visually stunning to watch. Jack Bruce's dynamic range on his voice is phenomenal. The three were just plain having fun playing and did it so well I caught myself saying "Shit, I can't believe how good they are". This is not a tired old band.
