Some may be torn and some may even jump on the Sox bandwagon because they're from Chicago but the hatred runs deep and wide and long. It's a cultural thing. The perception is that the South Side built Chicago and the North Side owns it, blue- collar versus white-collar times many generations equals a divide that won't be bridged by a mere World Series. First came the Europe '72 B&P that Ted hooked me up with. It was four dvd's chock full of shows in compressed format from one of the most famous tours by the boys. Then Richard Morris sends me almost every soundboard from 1972, over 80 shows in total, on 20 DVDs in compressed format. Finally, Rick Rodrigues sends me a package consisting of 100 or more cds of good ol' Grateful Dead (1968-1979) in SHN. I can't thank you guys enough. Decoding, burning, and listening to these shows oughta keep me busy for good long while. Oh, and if I try to get in on any more B&Ps in the next 15 years or so, please tell me no. Phish on the other hand at their peak employed 'Methneyesque' prog as a platform for improvised jamming. Not many bands that I know of did that. But getting back to my point. You can be a technically sophisticated musician and a poor songwriter (in terms of conventional hooks and melody) and still make great art if you emphasize your strengths. Songwriting is a talent. It's takes a certain type of mind to pull it off. It's not an issue of facility or even how deep one's vocabulary is. In my experience the best songwriters don't necessarily have the best musical chops either. But they do write of what they know or what they've touched and do so with an honest voice. -JC ------------------------------ From: "Richard Morris" Subject: Re: cheney = traitor Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2005 16:12:43 -0700 "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy" wrote in message news:pwN7f.18$DP.232@eagle.america.net... > > "Richard Morris" wrote in message > news:pvWdnV2hgNGdeMPeRVn-og@comcast.com... >> >> "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy" wrote in >> message news:QOt7f.404$EP6.2042@eagle.america.net... >> >> snip >> >>> Cheney is off the hook unless someone is willing to testify to a >>> conspiracy to leak the name led by Cheney. >>> >>> I can't imagine that happening, even as prosecutors try to flip Libby or >>> whoever with threats of jail time. I know most members of the group are Fuji purists but I can't always find Fujis and have had good luck with other CD-Rs. For instance, most members disparage Maxell and Memorex but I have actually found Maxell to be the most reliable. I am just speaking from my own experience. In any case, there are Sony's out there that seem to be bad as near as I can tell. As near as I can figure unless you bought the entire 10 disk set you are SOL. Most of us would be SOL since there was a limited number. Therefore, the entire run is now no longer supposed to be traded and probably no longer available on Archive.Org. In other words, most people will now only be able to get the edited highlights not to mention that the Eleven on Live/Dead is not the same version that was played that night. The version they actually played was even hotter than the one on Live Dead. I am actually very happy with the 5 disk Grateful Dead movie set that was recently released but I could imagine that some traders might want the entire 5 night run (I still prefer listening to 10/18/74 from start to finish). I also think I have detected some edits in this set as well, which, if I'm right, were probably done so that certain sections would fit onto one disk. Am I not the only trader that is becoming increasingly unhappy with this policy? I have bought plenty of commercial release and still do to this day (I just ordered a "Pure Jerry" yesterday) but the number of shows that are Verbotten is growing alarmingly and some are not being released in their entirety. What can I say, I love my Grateful Dead and I like to hear the whole show. Fitzgerald Focus: An Anonymous Star on the CIA's Wall of Honor by MoronMike Tue Oct 25, 2005 at 04:16:33 PM PDT With the Republicans girding for indictments on such "trivial" matters as perjury, obstruction of justice, and lying to investigators, let's be clear on what is at the heart of Fitzgerald's investigation: The violation of one or more federal statutes concerning the naming of covert CIA agents and/or their NOC companies. While there are many interesting facets of this case, what started it all, and the most important element, are the real-world consequences of outing covert agents. This from Wikipedia: An anonymous star was added to the wall between named stars that can be dated to deaths on February 5, 2003 and October 25, 2003. The anonymous star thus fits the timing of the Plame leak. Wayne Madsen, a reporter and former NSA employee, has claimed, "CIA sources report that at least one anonymous star placed on the CIA's Wall of Honor at its Langley, Virginia headquarters is a clandestine agent who was executed in a hostile foreign nation as a direct result of the White House leak." So, for all those out there who think this is just politics, think about the person behind that anonymous star. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/10/25/191633/61 ------------------------------ From: "David Gans" Subject: Re: David Gans Solo Electric Date: 26 Oct 2005 16:56:37 -0700 Thank you for your kind words, Stev!
