Since I'm sharing, I'll copy what I just wrote to our HR flunky, the new VP of HR, and the prodigal son who stands to inherit the company: Names have been expunged to protect their identities - I'm pretty certain none of them read rmgd anyway, but what the hell. I expected I would feel better after writing this, but instead it just made me more pissed off. The 401(k) where I work now contributes a whole $250 a year - $5 a paycheck, so I didn't notice when they never enrolled me. Anyway, here it is - it was sent to the HR flunky and I cc'd the other 2. [HR VP] called me last week to discuss some of my concerns regarding [my current employer's] 401(k) plan. She mentioned that I wasn't even enrolled and I distinctly remembered filling out all the paperwork and submitting it to you, so I was sure she was mistaken. However, looking closely at my latest paycheck, I see no deduction for it, so it seems she was right. What happened? Did you lose it? Did you simply fail to file it? We talked about this, so please don't try to tell me I never gave it to you - I distinctly remember doing so. I don't really care since it's such a measly amount anyway - [My new employer] will be contributing 15 times that amount to my 401(k) plan when I start there next month. They will contribute more to my 401(k) plan in the first month I am employed there than [my current employer] was supposed to during the course of an entire year. I'm just a bit upset that this is just 1 more thing that [my current employer] failed me on. I shouldn't be surprised at all, but I am. I really don't care about the money and I'm not going to sue them over this although I think I have a valid cause of action, but it just pisses me off because of the principle of the thing. That's just the tip of the iceberg, so hopefully everyone should understand that I'm not selling my soul by abstaining from smoking pot for a couple of months and submitting to a piss test for a lot more money and much better benefits. The only way to NOT sell my soul would be to live under a bridge or a national park or something like that. ------------------------------ From: Spider Dawg Subject: Re: Clapton/Trucks Tour? How many times have you seen the papers apportion the blame? Who gets to say, who gets the work and gets to play? I was always told at school, everybody should get the same How many times have you been told, if you don't ask you don't get? How many liars have taken your money, your mother said you shouldn't bet? Who has the fun, is it always the man with the gun? Someone must have told him, if you work too hard you can sweat There's always the sun There's always the sun Always, always, always the sun How many times have the weathermen told you stories that made you laugh? Date: 21 Oct 2005 06:16:23 -0700 Seth, we've been through this. Do you remember that the World Trade Center was targetted successfully in the 1990's? OK, one more time. It isn't ad hominem to point out that Roberts distorted his facts. I did point this out. (did too, I'm rubber you're glue). He distorted the facts in the Stewart case and did not mention that the "client" was a convicted killer who plotted to blow up parts of Manhattan and inspired/directed the people who did blow up parts of the World Trade Center in the 90's. Plotting to blow up buildings in this country is not an issue of civil liberties--it really is against the law. A lawyer cannot help a convicted criminal hook up with buddies on the outside and resolve disputes when a court--not the government, a judge--goes out of their way to forbid this contact. This has nothing to do with civil liberties. Yes, there's a WHY to Roberts distortions and double standards (when he talks about busting "neoconservative" leakers and schmoozers all talk of civil liberties goes out the windows--they are traitors pure and simple) But the logical contortions are independently verifiable. ------------------------------ From: "Sparky the Wonder Dog" Subject: Re: A Conservative viewpoint.... Anything by Ed Wood is an immediate candidate, he was the king of b movies. For more modern movies, I particularly like Killer Klowns From Outer Space (featuring John "Dean Wormer" Vernon as an uptight cop). Absolute stoner piece, had to be intentionally bad. Date: 21 Oct 2005 06:47:14 -0700 It used to be that America fought organized armies abroad and, more or less, arrested criminals here in the United States. Criminals went through the justice system here and POWs had their own separate rights and Geneva Convention protections. However there are now "non-state" groups that use armed force (heavy emphasis on explosives) like Al Qaeda. After 9/11 the Bush administration (again, more or less, I'm no legal expert) decided that these guys would not go through our criminal justice system and would not have protections that the Geneva Conventions originally intended for regular armies. Well, it makes sense not to prosecute regular soldiers under the domestic law of the country they are captured in. After all, Germany could have prosecuted Allied soldiers in WWII under German penal codes of the time--it was verbotten for German citizens to drop high explosive ordinance from airplanes on German cities. But POWs were protected by being treated as POWs and not criminals. We now know that there are problems with deciding that "non-state" combatants won't be run through our court system and also won't be treated as POWs. For one thing, American citizens who affiliate with these groups are also taken outside our court system. For another, the rules on treating these non-POWs prisoners have been chaotic, skirted torture, fell into torture, and then were extended to Iraqi prisoners who were regular POWs. So, how should America IDEALLY treat these kinds of combatants--people who decide to take up armed action against Americans or American facilities but who don't belong to national armies? The question is not what Bush has done wrong (he's not going to be President forever) but what rules would be right to use now and in the future (after he's gone). Should American citizens who join these groups be treated differently than non-American citizens? Should someone who is a proven member of Al Qaeda be treated as a POW? As an indefinite detainee? As a criminal under American law? Should it matter if they are captured in the United States or in another country? ------------------------------ From: kpnnews@yahoo.com Subject: Re: Open Apology to the RMGD Women Date: 21 Oct 2005 06:49:17 -0700 Richard Morris wrote: > wrote in message > news:1129864586.908492.59940@g14g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... > > > > snip > > Some folks hang on to the > > futile, and others are oblivious to paradise. > > > > Kurt > > > > Well now ... that is an interesting thought.
