To make my college resume even less employable I minored in philosophy. I was fortunate enough to be in a position where I could truly pursue something in college I enjoyed without thoughts of how it would lead to a job (no, I'm not independently wealthy, but there was a safety net I could fall back on for short periods ot time if I needed it). My parents were more or less supportive of my choice of majors (my mom more, my dad less), although I think they kept hoping I would announce a change in majors at the last minute. Despite majoring in a field with virtually no job prospects I consider my colllege years to be incredibly valuable ones. I learned how to learn in many ways, I was able to start establishing independence by moving out of my parents house and having to take care of any number of things (rent, food, utilties) on my own and I made the deepest friendships of my life. Oh, and I caught a hell of a lot of Dead shows while I was at it. ------------------------------ From: Brad Greer Subject: Re: drug tests for jobs (NDC) Date: Wed, 19 Oct 2005 13:34:22 -0400 On Tue, 18 Oct 2005 22:53:23 GMT, "Stephen St." wrote: > >"Richard Morris" wrote i > >> >> Yeah ... and if you get caught up in a random test and get terminated, you >> have an unexplainable gap in your work history. Worked in industry for 10 years, now I work in education teaching others how to be mechanical engineers. I love it, and the variety of work and people on campus is exactly what I wanted...I've done the "work with the same 10 people every day" thing - not for me. Majoring in Mechanical Engineering made it a *little* tougher to see the Dead at a moment's notice, but I did pretty well. My only regret was having to miss the "Formerly The Warlocks" shows, but I just couldn't blow off mid-terms.
