The first night had an extremely long second set ending with the first East Coast Bobby version of Lovelight. The boys played until just about midnight, which was the curfew for the Civic Center, so there was no encore. None needed, however, after this stellar second set. The Scarlet>Fire>Playing on 10/15 ain't too shabby either. Time to break out the Sennheiser 441 FOB masters I made back then and give them a whirl over the weekend. Woo-hoo. For GD recordings, it'd be 'American Beauty' and 'One From the Vault.' Dunno why...but I just prefer those when I'm home by myself. If I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for my teenage years, I put on either "Tubular Bells" or "Hergest Ridge" from Mike Oldfield. No matter what I'd been listening to during the day, or even earlier in the evening, I used to love popping one of those on the turntable, killing the lights, laying down and just let my mind wander. They're still a good way to settle myself after a long day. A couple others would be Golden Earring's "Moontan," Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog," The Who's "Quadrophenia," and Laurie Anderson's "Mister Heartbreak." Each one of those albums has a million little things going on in the background that I like listening for, and I find myself getting annoyed if there's a lot of chatter going on when I'm listening to them. I'm sure there are many others, but I'm feeling a bit fried today... ~Ted ------------------------------ From: Walter Karmazyn Subject: Re: 21 Years Ago -- Hartford '84 Date: Fri, 14 Oct 2005 12:01:45 -0700 Brett wrote: > I was at those shows! > > Wait till you see the Dead's new website that is being built - it's > gonna blow you away. > > I spent a few hours last night going through the backend - Every show, > every song, every detail of their career at your fingertips... Other One from Hundred Year Hall; Dark Stars from Rockin the Rhine and 4/8/72. The only other musician like that for me is Keith Jarrett. Most of his solo piano stuff. Lately, especially the last 3 tracks from Radiance. For that type of music you have to really concentrate and pay attention. I had to do a little late morning LA area driving, and selected Quicksilver's Happy Trails for my driving music... This is one of my favorite albums ever, but I so rarely play it because I don't want to get burned out on it... The first time I ever heard this, I was 16 years old or so, under the influence of heavy mental lubrication and only made it through side one of this vinyl before my face melted completely off and I decided to venture out side and have an up-close and personal conversation with my friend's lawn... So basically, Happy Trails is my non-GD face melting/lawn-conversing music... ------------------------------ From: "Dave Kelly" Subject: Re: August and September pics from Sandgate Date: Fri, 14 Oct 2005 19:30:14 GMT "Sherry" wrote in message news:BF755CE7.575CB%sherry13@together.net... >> Any snaps of the infamous "Sandgate Nude-In and >> Deep Fried Turkey Cook Off"? > > Uh... no.
