Yeah, it may not have been that he thought that the Arabs were superior, dunno. They were certainly used by Saddam as convenient scapegoats - just as most (all?) authoritarian Arab rulers do. But again Saddam fancied himself as a modern day Saladin. In reality of course Saddam was no Saladin, but that didn't stop Saddam from seeing himself as the Arab ruler who would unite the region, in part by taking Jerusalem. > Hamas hates the Jews. Saddam? My take however is that it was more about Saddam trying to provoke Israel into the Gulf I conflict to engender a larger regional conflict, wherein the lines would be redrawn to between Muslims and non-Muslims. A long shot to say the least, but then realistic military strategy was never Saddam's strong point. > >> His actions prior to our latest invasion led to the complete > >> destruction of his military, national infrastructure, and economy, while > >> Hitler marshalled the forces inside Germany to create what was the > >> strongest > >> military in the world. This year I got smart - the glories are trained up jute rope I tied to a rock at the bottom, and the trim at the top. Much easier to pull down in winter, too, without trashing the trim I spent so much time painting last year. :) I love to just sit out on my porch and look at the mountain... I really appreciate our views. :) New neighbors just inherited the land across from us, and they've very nicely chosen to place their house over the ridge, so we can't really see it expect in winter... and when the other trees they planted grow in, we won't see it at all.
