I think its going to be a close game (two good defenses) and the Lions have a chance to pull off the upset, especially since it is at Beaver Stadium. I grew up watching PSU and itrs nice to see them winning some games again. With them and Notre Dame winning again I've actually regained some interest in college football. This game is a big one. I'm actually at OSU working on a PhD, but I can't root for the bastards, except maybe against Bitchigan. OSU players given the PSU team plenty of "bulletin board material" but JoePa, being smart, banned his players from talking to the press this week. I'm here in Columbus and since I don't have cable I'm going out to a bar to watch the game, and I'm wearing my colors. Send help if you all don't hear from me by midnight tomorrow;-) Shawn PS. Sorry Bill, didn't mean to usurp the thread and I can't help with the bets...although I do have an old college buddy who used to place bets the old fasioned way, for his mom;-) ------------------------------ From: "Richard Morris" Subject: Re: Wake Up America! To me, the version from > >> 9/27/72 is far better, and I also think that generally, Playin' was > >> even > >> better in '73 and '74... I strongly agree that '74 Playins are better than '72 Playins. Tonight I listened to three '72 Playins and the Playin from DP 7 (Sept of '74 in Europe). I easily prefer the DP 7 Playin. I just find it so much more interesting on the whole than the '72 versions. The '72 versions are great but the Playin jam hadn't reached maturity yet -that would occur bigtime by the Summer '74 tour. The '74 ones are a lot longer and there's a lot more themes and moods in them.than the '72 ones which tend to be frenetic a lot of the time. And the sound quality on the DP 7 version is amazing - much better than the '72 shows I listened to. You can hear Lesh, Weir, and Godchaux really clearly. That adds so much to the music. After hearing the sound quality on DP 7, I'm thinking now about getting DP 36 (9-21-72). I thought I had a good copy of it but I think it could be cleaned up a decent amount. If the new DP 36 is cleaned up a decent amount then it's worth getting since that's such a great show. > > > > Your post will get me to give a listen to the Playins from 9-21-72 and > > 9-27-72 to see which one I like better but the last time I listened to > > the > > Playin from 9-21-72, it blew me away. Well I didn't do that but I did listen to the Playins from 9-21-72, 11-13-72, and 12-11-72. > You know, a lot of people love the 9/21 Playin', so I'm figuring it must > just be me... That gives me a good excuse to give my speakers a workout > pretty soon... I think my neighbors need to hear this too... You were right about the 9-21-72 version. Of the three '72 Playins I heard tonight, I thought 11-13-72 and 12-11-72 were clearly superior to 9-21-72. Garcia was a bit low on the 9-21 mix and Phil was too high on it. That's why a think a DP might sound a lot better. But beyond the mix, I thought musically the two later '72 were a lot more interesting.. The 11-13-72 is a great audience recording that is really excellent music, despite missing 7 minutes. The 12-11-72 one has two nasty cuts in the middle of the jam but is equally as excellent as 11-13-72. But as I said above, the Sept '74 version from DP 7 was much more developed than all three of the '72 ones. And there's better '74 versions like 6-8, 6-16, and especially the amazing one from 8-6-74.
