Can you elaborate? Thanks. As usual, my source is C-Span. Leahy, Spector and a couple other senators were outside the White House after meeting with Bush about who he might nominate. Leahy said he once again brought up his long held idea that someone who was not a judge be nominated. Spector said he did the same. When asked Bush's reaction, Leahy said Bush smiled (smirked) but that was it. He said he didn't hold out much hope after getting that reaction, but he got what he asked for anyway. Leahy has been saying this for years in the Judiciary Commitee; that he wanted a president to nominate somebody other than a judge. >> She could be horrible, but no one really knows. You'll be proud of Harriet's record, > Rush. Trust me. Since Cheney can't be trusted as far as you can throw a pacemaker, I wouldn't be too thrilled if I was Limbaugh. The fact is nobody has any idea about this woman. The right is mightily pissed because there were so many obvious right wingers that could have been nominated. She even contributed money to Al Gore, Lloyd Bentsen, and the Democrat party in the 80's, something the extremists cannot abide. Then she contributed money to Republicans. Nothing is obvious about this woman. It all boils down to the hearings and what she says in response to questions. Its a free for all, an open process, with no one knowing how they're going to vote. You could have some Republicans voting against her, or all the Democrats voting against her, or most Democrats voting for her. The interest groups on both sides are in a frenzy because they have nothing to campaign about for or against. I like that all those lobbysists have effectively been sidelined, at least temporarily. For once the senators can decide based on what they see and hear from the nominee, without all the threats of money not being given, or more money being given, or TV ads or e-mail campaigns. They get to make up their own minds. They get to act independently and decide based on what they see as being for the good of the whole country. That's the way its supposed to be. I live in Indiana, but I love the Steelers. I'm always pissed when I have to watch lousy local games instead of being able to watch good Steelers football. For secondary games the Bears, Lions, Titans, Bengals and Browns are all considered more "local" than the Steelers. I listen on AM sports radio, or go to my friend that has NFL package to watch. A lot of the time I get stuck watching the Bears or the Lions. I hate that. I enjoy watching the Colts, but going to the games shows you just how lame the fans can be.
