Good stuff. I think I saw a listing of Fareed playing there with some dinner jazz outfit, or maybe that was another joint. > If you are into more avant jazz Empty Bottle has a series on > Wednesdays. Usually a good chance to catch Vandermark or his cronies. Vandermark is indeed playing next Wednesday and my wife has already confirmed to me that she's going. We've been huge supporters and fans of Vandermark for shit, like 8 years. Rarely does he come out here and we've seen Vandermark 5 a few times, but one of the greatest jazz shows I ever saw was when he brought School Days (named after a Steve Lacy-Roswell Rudd project) featuring Jeb Bishop and the incredible Swedish rhythm section Paal Nilsson-Love (the best drummer in the world, period...check out Atomic, his other band) and some dude named Haker-Flaten on bass (astonishing talent...also with Atomic) out here to play at the Knitting Factory in L.A. and there were like 12 people total at the show. Tore it up like it's never been before. I mentioned the show two years later when he played with Vandermark 5 in San Francisco and he remembered the dead crowd and the band's insistence on melting the house down anyway. Getting back to the Vandermark 5, seeing Dave Rempis conjure up the ghost of Eric Dolphy is worth the price of admission alone. I'm sure you all have had your fill out there in Chicago, but I'm sincerely jealous. Chicago IMO has the most creative jazz scene in America. Anyway, thanks for all the recommendations folks. They've been passed on. Peas, JC ------------------------------ From: "Steve Terry" Subject: Re: Sorting Tapes ... If so, they will take the unwanted tapes and find someone who will adopt your Maxells and give them the love and attention that they so desperately need. They don't have tapeworms, do they? Don't feel bad; tending to a tape collection isn't easy. They grow from their infant stages and just get too big for the house. It happens all of the time. That's where the deadtape rescue shelter comes in. There are lotsa deadtape lovers out there who would trip over themselves to adopt your tapes.
