At least that is the way it seemed to me. that's because they are in an "off" period and the partiers are the only ones taking them too seriously anyomore. They have been since 2001. When I first went to see them there were tons of "grey hairs" and families with children playing. It was a great scene. > The second thing I noticed is that they didn't make any mistakes. They used to be a LOT more loose and experimental, taking chances etc... That is the main reason I got in to them. > On > the other hand I'll have to listen to it again and see if maybe I was > just having an off night. call it an off couple of years, lol. I hear that it is getting better, here and there, let's hope they get the magic back. I've seen over 60 shows and have skipped the last 2 times they have come around locally. They just aren't doin it anymore. And not just for me, a LOT of old school fans echo the same feelings, a major reason you see a lot of youngins. The scene used to be riddled with deadheads. It was a very kind scene. This was ending right when Barlow went to see them for the first time and made his "the next Dead" statement. He caught a glimpse of what was. It's been all down hill since then. And the songs he calaborated on stink, lol. I have only seen them a handful of times since the statement. ------------------------------ From: DG Subject: Re: (NDC) Attention Yankee fans Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2005 09:59:16 -0700 Rogues Island's finest wrote: > >DG wrote: >> Kelly Humphries wrote: >> > >> >http://www.speakeasy.net/~kpisces/haha.wav >> >> >> Most Yanks fans realize this was an underachieving bunch. I went to both NH shows. Bumped into Neil and Mrs. X the first night. Also introduced myself to Nick post-show (for the second time as we had met briefly at the Middle East one night probably 2 years ago). This was my first concert at the Casino (a personal low water mark as I have lived in the area for over 10 years now) and I thought it was a very fun place - lots of space maybe due to post-RI-Station fire tendency not to oversell. I was 30 ft from the stage both nights at the 7-8 o'clock position with the left PAs staring me in the face and with plenty of room to move around. > I went on Sunday night. My first SCI show. I had fun both nights. I won't offer any real critique of the music as I didn't really care to take notes through this run - was just glad to be out. The sound was noticably less muddy for the Sunday night show. I will highlight that there were guest musicians popping up throughout both shows and I thought they managed to fit in perfectly with the band not needing to alter what they were doing to make room. They blended pretty seemlessly - IMHO. > The first thing I noticed is that the crowd was relatively young. Young, yes. And well behaved for the most part. I had good groups of people around me both nights, folks just looking to have enough dance space to get their groove on. Lots of smiles all around. > And, I was also thinking the sound system was > so-so. I don't see many (any?) non-Dead bands so maybe I've just been > spoiled by the sound of Phil & Ratdog? The room is not ideal for music by any stretch, but by Sunday I was fairly well satisfied with how it sounded where I was located. But... when I'm out of town, Andre needs to take off from work to care for the animals and/or kids (well, only Thea's young enough to need watching now, but after next summer, there'll be 2, one who will need mama for a while yet)... and his greedy old work place limits the number of days he can have off a year! The nerve of them! Right now he's taken the time off to arrange for me, Thea and maybe Tristan to head somewhere in January... not sure where, yet. Was gonna go down to Orlando, FL to meet up with some of Thea's travel group (China adoption, we try to keep the girls in touch), but as it turns out, no other families are able to make it then. Still pondering on going down anyway, but sorta going off towards Sparta, TN (old friends of mine) and thru VA (my cousin), GA, NJ, and maybe down as far as Jacksonville, FL (Army/Dead friend). All up in the air now... where we go depends on how much time he can take off - he does catalog production so his schedule is tied to that. Next fall we're considering a trip out west, maybe as far as CA, as he'll get 3 months off thru FMLA... but he's considering only taking a couple of weeks off and working part-time so as to not have to pay for insurance while he's on leave... and we'll have a new baby with us, and me shot from the LONG trip to China and back (jet lag is a bitch with a new baby who is used to sleeping 12 hours difference). But hey, we can all meet if we just head on up to my place next August, for our bonfire party. :) Musicians especially welcome!
