Antibalas falls somewhat into this vein. They are good, very good. I got Talkatif which is phenomenal, but very very Fela-ish. However, their Who Is This America is phenomenal. Why David Rawlings isn't noted as being one of the great guitarists of our time escapes me. This guy has you on the edge of your seat each and every time he takes a solo. And he can say so much in so few bars. Gillian is quite lucky, as talented as she is, to have him on board. -JC ------------------------------ From: "Ray" Subject: Re: Watchya Listenin' To Lately? I've heard of Antibalas and Allen but am not familiar with their music - thanks for the recs, I'll check them out. I'm also not familiar with Femi's live CD - only Shoki Shoki, which IMO is good though not great. He puts on a really good live show however - if you haven't seen him, his apparently lackluster live CD notwithstanding I recommend you check it out. Not great, but really high energy and a lot of fun. FWIW I think Femi has the potential for becomming great, but first he'll have to develop more of his own voice. Yes, these were recorded multi-track for the Skull & Roses album, but not used. In '94 Phil nixed a 2/19/71 release, before he and the rest of the band agreed not to have prior approval on the vault releases.
