Date: 7 Oct 2005 08:58:18 -0700 amen to that! been listening to a Van show from July of this year, the Hebridean Celtic Festival at Lews Castle in Scotland, that I took a shot on from that radiorarities.com site. Hey, $5.99 what the hell, it was a nice extra for the wife's birthday, as she is also a major fan of the Man. It's a fair-to-middlin quality aud, but a very lively and well-played show - great setlist. Lemme know if you want a B&P - as I said, not the best sound, but very interesting nonetheless. Celtic Swing, Have I Told You Lately [Las Vegas version], Days Like This, Stop Drinking, Bright Side Of The Road, All Work And No Play, Baby Please Don't Go, All Saints Day, Moondance, Here Comes The Night, Jackie Wilson Said, Cleaning Windows, Back On Top, Don't Worry About A Thing, Wonderful Remark, Help Me [false start], Irish Heartbeat, Celtic New Year, Precious Time [scat ending], Northern Muse (Solid Ground), Star Of The County Down, Brown Eyed Girl, Gloria. ------------------------------ From: leftie Subject: Re: Anne laiid her head in the roses............ Latter-day Dylan is an aquired taste. His vocals can be rough to take for many, which is kind of strange for a guy known as a great lyricist. That said, I think Time Out of Mind is an outstanding album, the songs are top-notch and suited for Dylan's current vocal style. ------------------------------ From: "pookietooth" Subject: Re: Watchya Listenin' To Lately? All > it takes is a little hit of Fela. Right fellas? Then you hooked. Yeah - Fela's the man. That said what first got me into African music was "Juju Music" by King Sunny Ade - a classic. Then "Talking Timbuktu" by Ali Farka Toure and Ry Cooder - another great one. Then I got to Fela - "Expensive Shit" - which was indeed the shit. There's lots of great African music that dead and/or jazz heads can get into. Kurt I'm not familiar with the two that you listed here but they both look interesting - I'll check them out. And if you don't have Ethiopique Vol. 4 you should get that one - worth it for My Asmara (track 8) alone. Check it: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000DDMB/qid%3D1128652227/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/104-1954038-1627114 That Ethiopian scene had real potential - unfortunately Emperor Halle Selassie died in '74 and the country was taken over by a military junta that established night curfews that remained until the junta fell 18 years later. Date: 7 Oct 2005 09:39:31 -0700 Some superb SBDs- As much as I dislike pumping up the show even more, the 5.8.77 SBD with the Eaton DBX decoding and the AUD patches from Steve Maizner's AUD sets the standard, imo. Some other real top-notch jobs were done on the 2.26.77 and 5.7.77 SBDs as well. >From earlier, 2.23.74 (well, part of set I and all of set II) & 2.24.74 are superb SBDs, and 5.14.74 gets going pretty well by the big jam too. The SBD of 4.2.73 via CM is outstanding, maybe the best sounding tape from that year. 5.20.73 isn't too shabby either, although the show itself is not my favorite. And thankfully, much of Nov. '73 sounds great, particularly 11.14, 11.17, and 11.23. '72 - Veneta sounds great if you can track down the 16 trk patched with the 4 trk SBD. 12.31.72 also is out there in great quality. '71 - 11.15.71 via Gans, the 10.29.71 via CM, and 2.18.71 come to mind. The upgrade of 5.15.70 that came into circulation this past year is very full. 2.14.70 e '69 - 11.2.69 and 10.25.69 are pretty good, as are 5.23-24.69. So that's some! Plenty of crispy boards in the '89 - '95 period too, but... ;-) MJ ------------------------------ From: "Roxanne McDaniel" Subject: Re: Anne laiid her head in the roses............ This was suggested elsewhere here just after the nomination - which I thought wouldn't happen because the Dems know that Miers is about as good as they're going to get from this administration. But now I'm not so sure - the vitriol coming from some corners of the right is so strong that the Repubs might split their vote on this one, dunno. And the Dems might too - with half thinking she's the best they can get and helf thinking that she's not qualified and/or too conservative (anti-choice, too corporate, etc). In which case she might not get confirmed, dunno. But, if she doesn't get confirmed because both parties split, then the Dems won't be taking all the heat for it, in which case they may be able to block another one and still avoid having the obstructionism charge stick. This whole thing is a wildcard, and if she does get confirmed who knows what she'll do. (Ok maybe Bush knows - him and James Dobson.)
