Well, since I am getting hooked up with a kind BnP myself this week, I thought I would keep the vibe going and offer back up the DVD of 4/26/77 that I got from Steve. Its a partial show from New Jersey on video with some great closeups of the band. I'll take up to 4! Douglas, William Rehnquist, and about 40 other justices had no judicial experience before serving on the court. The current makeup of the court, with everyone of them having been judges before becoming justices, is a highly unusual circumstance. The court has always had members who came from somewhere other than the small society of the bench. It provides a different perspective. In and of itself, having a non-judge nominee is wonderful. The Democrats asked that Bush consider nominating someone outside of the usual suspects, someone who is not a judge. That's who he nominated. The hearings will be uber-important, as the senators will get almost all of their information about her from her testimony and her answers to questions. Instead having pre-determined opinions about her, with everyone having either their pre-determined gotcha or softball questions at the ready, and with all the pro and con groups having their pre-determined slogans at the ready, its going to be like it was for hundreds of years: the senators ask a question and have no idea what the answer will be. The process will be real for a change. She could be horrible, but no one really knows. She could be great. Being a non-judge is a definite plus in the eyes of just about everyone involved in the process, though. EGBH ------------------------------ From: "dearmeyer®" Subject: Re: when was BnP day again?
