The part that pisses me off royally, is that they are nailing Joe fan, but ignoring the brokers. A dentist got busted in front of Fenway a few years back, WITH his son standing next to him, for selling an extra ticket to the game. He sued, and I'm not sure what ever happened to him. The MA State Police have undercover cops at Great Woods looking for people selling tickets, for any price, and they arrest them on the spot. I damn near got nailed a few years ago selling an extra (for less that face). Enforce the fucking laws equally or drop 'em. I don't Scot ------------------------------ just exactly perfect. Weir sounds better to me in '75 than in '73 or '74. He plays brilliantly, as a matter of fact. (He's also brilliant throughout '77, my second favorite year). Maybe I just heard him better on the Ibanez than on the hollow body Gibson, maybe he changed preamps, dunno. Fantastic tone, fantastic articulation. Garcia undeniably plays with a different dominant tone in each year from 74 through 77. Of each of these tones, I like '75 and '77 the best. I think I very much prefered the Travis Bean to the Wolf. I did like everything he played in each of these years. I do like '76 a lot , but it's a lot dreamier, while '75 is psychedelic and '77 ballsy as hell. Phil is great throughout, although possibly less in your face in 76. I loved Keith on the acoustic grand, but I also love the Rhodes sound of '75. Hated the electric grand at the end. And as much as I love and appreciate Billy's gift for swing and subtlety, the two headed, eight limbed beast always spoke directly to my gut. So sometimes '74 seems like a daydream, while '75 feels like a trip through the bardo. So yeah, '75 resonated for me like no other year, and threw me on the bus for good. Loved every minute of '77 too, my second favorite year. (Sadly, we got shut out completely for tickets to the '76 Orpheum run, although I think we got to the ticket counter an hour or two after they first went on sale. ) Also, there's a huge difference between being 15 -- as I was when I saw them in '72 -- and being 18, and out on your own for the first time. It's true that they were quite a different band in '75 than the one I had seen a few years earlier, but I was a different listener as well, and ready and open in a different way. There's bound to be some magic associated with that, whenever it happens to happen to you. Damn. Nice reminiscin'. I oughta waddle off for a while, now. cheers, --bongo ------------------------------ From: "Andrew Murawa" Subject: SoCal in Autumn Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2005 10:56:49 -0700 Ah, Southern California in autumn (also known as fire season) is such a beautiful thing... The smoke for the fires in the distance billowing up into the sky like so many Nagasakis and Hiroshimas... And then, when up close, the beautiful dark brown smoke of the brush fires combines with the dusty gray of the ever prevalent smog to turn the normally greyish blue sky into a lovely brownish grey, like so much dirty water running down a hairclogged drain... And the smell! Oh, how can one describe such a smell that takes me immediately back to more carefree days when I was a child running and playing the streets like a little Nero playing his fiddle while the hillsides above me burned... Days like this make me feel almost guilty for not smoking enough... What, smoking is supposed to be bad for me? Hah! I scoff at your insinuation... I want double the smoke... Gimme nicotine flavored smoke couple with the chapparal flavor smoke circulating around the city and I'll be damned if this ain't a high quality cigar I'm sucking down in 10 seconds flat... And of course, the snow... We don't get a lot of that fancy "cold snow" that they get in other places in the world, but man oh man, when it starts raining ash for miles around, when every person on the street (hah, like people hang out on the street in LA) looks like a Catholic who's pastor went a little overboard on Ash Wednesday, ah... it just feels like home... It just makes me get all teary eyed... Now laughing friends deride, Tears I cannot hide, So I smile and say, when a lovely flame dies, Smoke gets in your eyes.... ------------------------------ From: "volkfolk" Subject: Re: One man takes on the scalpers Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2005 14:00:17 -0400 "DG" wrote in message news:s8sqj192lhskknv72eu14p7r1grrhavlnj@4ax.com... > volkfolk wrote: >> >>DG wrote >> >>> Rogues Island's finest wrote: >>>> >>>>Rupert wrote: >>>>> How can this guy try to sue the ticket agents, but then have the gaul >>>>> to go out and USE the tickets? They don't play enough shows in the Bay Area. But they don't get much respect in the Bay Area (if you count ticket sales as a sign of respect) so I suppose that's why we don't get more shows here. I love RatDog enough that if there is a conflict NYE, I'll see RatDog over Phil & Friends.
