I think some people have this idea that I'm talking about racial prejudices. In a sense yes, but in a completely indirect way. In order for a candidate to be chosen for a given party, the electorate has to believe that the candidate can win in a general election. Someone may elect to perjure themselves to "protect their family" but they need to be prepared to accept the consequences. The president, who ever he/she/it is, has no more right to lie under oath than you or me. To allow that someone testifying or deposing under oath gets to decide what truth they are obligated to tell undermines the whole concept of justice. You may argue that Clinton took advantage > of the escape hatch he was given, but that doesn't mean he was guilty > of perjury. Personally, I don't care whether he committed perjury or not on this issue. He should have never had to answer questions about an affair as a sitting president. It was a disgrace. If the same happened to a Republican, I'd feel the same way, and so would most of America I believe. -JC ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** The service addresses, to which questions about the list itself and requests to be added to or deleted from it should be directed, are as follows: Internet: dead-flames-request@gdead.berkeley.edu Bitnet: dead-flames-request%gdead.berkeley.edu@ucbcmsa Uucp: ...!{ucbvax,uunet}!gdead.berkeley.edu!dead-flames-request You can send mail to the entire list (and rec.music.gdead) via one of these addresses: Internet: dead-flames@gdead.berkeley.edu Bitnet: dead-flames%gdead.berkeley.edu@ucbcmsa Uucp: ...!{ucbvax,uunet}!gdead.berkeley.edu!dead-flames End of Dead-Flames Digest ****************************** .
