Better to do that than head up the freeway for a 90 minute drive home in the wee hours after an afternoon and evening of debauchery, eh? So we got up in the morning and called some friends who live in the area. Actually, they live on Treasure Island, which is the island in the bay that bisects the Oakland-San Francisco Bay bridge. Gawd, have they got some views of the City, I tell you! We invited them to brunch, and they chose a barbecue place on Haight Street. And we had a er ah *very* unique brunch indeed (collard greens fer breakfast??) Mimi's Barbecue I believe it is called. Philadelphia Cheesesteak would not do. Sorry Sweets. So of course, you drive all the way into the city to Haight Street for brunch, yer gonna swing by the famous corner of Haight and Ashbury Streets, which I tell you looks a whole hell of a lot different than the last time I was there in about 1967. Had to walk up Ashbury Street a couple of blocks to 710 ... the ancestral mansion itself. Place looks good ... owner was backing the car our of the garage and had left the front door open while waiting for his wife to come down, so I umm unobtrusively got a few peaks in the front door. Place is lookin' good inside too! All fixed up. Almost approached the owner, but from what I have read they indeed know what they own, and I figured they probably put up with enough fuckin' yay-hoos coming through the neighborhood wanting to see the house. So we contented ourselves with examining 715 across the street, which is where Jerry and Mountain Girl watched the famous bust at 710 go down after having been warned off from going into 710. And then got a photo of me and the Mrs. in front of 710 after the owners left. First time I have been back to the area in about 38 years, and here I am acting like a friggin' tourist. Email me if interested in a copy via email ;) Two virgins in front of 710 Ashbury Street. While strolling, I was struck by something that Jerry once said about Woodstock. He said that the vibe of the place was heavy with invisible time travelers who had come back to witness the event. And so it goes with 710 Ashbury, and the whole H-A area. The place is heavy with history. Too heavy, mebbe. But tonight's episode blew us away! It was the pro-weed episode, where there's a fight over who stole the parents' "stash". But while both of the parents scold the other over how bad it is for them to be smoking, they both have stoned flashbacks about their respective party days. The dad tells his daughter that he had it in his drawer because it's for his mother-in-law's glaucoma, so the son goes out and buys Grandma some weed on the sly. I have a buzzing on the D and G (bronze wound strings)that was horrid when I got it - with very old strings on. It reduced a lot with new strings but is still not acceptable. Doesn't look like they are vibrating against the frets. Doesn't happen when open to fret 3 of D and G strings are played. Seems like they buzz when fretted at the 4th fret and below by the strings or those pairs vibrating into each other. That is, the strings are hitting Each Other not the finger board frets. I have also checked that the wheels of the bridge aren't rattling due to being loose and that the tail piece isn't the source of the rattle. This weekend at the First Annual Pennsylvania Renewable Energy and Sustanable Living Festival in Kempton, PA I was told to check for rattles from the way the strings are seated in the bridge...haven't really psyched that out. Any help would be appreciated as I am giving the mando a going over with about 3 weeks left in a 30 day warranty. Love the instrument outside of the infernal buzz....How to fix it??? What to check? What should I do myself? What should I farm out to the pros? Note: It has a truss rod but so far I lean away from any warp in the neck as a theory.
