John H. ------------------------------ From: "rcb30" Subject: Vine: PITB Mix, etc. Date: 24 Sep 2005 11:10:55 -0700 The original offer was in a BT post, so in case interested parties missed it ... We're growing a FLAC vine containing the new Playing Mix (76:30), a relatively new version of 9/14/74 Munich, and the still-warm 9/23/87 Philly. Five FLAC discs total. Listened to the Playing disc this morning, it's a great production, on par with the TOO project. I've listened to about a disc's worth of each of the other shows. New '74 is nothing to sneeze at, of course, and the '87 set sounds better than what you might think of when some of us think "'87". The Healy matrix doesn't hurt matters. Anyway, I will keep this open all weekend. Reply privately and we'll get it lined up. A ton of show details beneath. - rcb ========================================================== Playin' In The Band -A Mix Performed by The Grateful Dead 1971 - 1989 Total Running Time - 01:16:30 00:00:00 > 00:00:21 'Dead Air' 1971-11-07 Harding Theater - San Francisco, CA 00:00:21 > 00:01:13 1971-04-05 Manhattan Center - New York, NY 00:01:13 > 00:01:32 1974-06-08 Coliseum Stadium - Oakland, CA 00:01:32 > 00:02:25 1979-12-28 Oakland Auditorium - Oakland, CA 00:02:25 > 00:02:53 1974-05-21 Edmundson Pavilion - Seattle, WA 00:02:53 > 00:08:58 1972-05-11 Rotterdam Civic Hall - Rotterdam, Netherlands 00:08:58 > 00:17:15 1973-11-17 Pauley Pavilion - Los Angeles, CA 00:17:15 > 00:24:56 1974-09-21 Palais des Sports - Paris, France 00:24:56 > 00:29:17 1989-10-16 Brendan Byrne Arena - East Rutherford, NJ 00:29:17 > 00:30:27 1973-11-17 Pauley Pavilion - Los Angeles, CA 00:30:27 > 00:36:25 1979-10-28 Cape Cod Coliseum - South Yarmouth, MA 00:36:25 > 00:47:00 1972-08-27 Old Renaissance Faire Grounds - Veneta, OR 00:47:00 > 00:49:53 1984-07-15 Greek Theater - Berkeley, CA 00:49:53 > 00:52:26 1974-07-19 Selland Arena - Fresno, CA 00:52:26 > 00:54:10 1972-11-18 Hofheinz Pavilion - Houston, TX 00:54:10 > 00:57:18 1972-10-09 Winterland Arena - San Francisco, CA 00:57:18 > 01:00:17 1989-10-09 Hampton Coliseum - Hampton, VA 01:00:17 > 01:04:45 1973-05-26 Kezar Stadium - San Francisco, CA 01:04:45 > 01:09:45 1974-06-08 Coliseum Stadium - Oakland, CA 01:06:40 > 01:07:56 Loop * 01:09:45 > 01:13:43 1974-02-22 Winterland Arena - San Francisco, CA 01:13:43 > 01:14:26 1989-10-09 Hampton Coliseum - Hampton, VA 01:14:26 > 01:16:30 1974-02-22 Winterland Arena - San Francisco, CA * "Loop" consists of the following mixed together totaling 19s 429ms: 1971-11-07 - a segment from the middle AFTER the entire performance had been reversed and laid upon itself 1976-12-31 - short portion portion of the jam (the high guitar you might hear) 1971-04-05 - Theme post-verse 3 Loop is repeated just over 3 times slightly crossfaded into one another and played simultaneously with 1974-06-08 All sources are lossless and from archive.org/audio and are in compliance with the taping/trading policy of the band. Thanks to the provider of the MSCs who for various reasons wishes to remain anonymous. Overall this recording has a lot more high end than the source listed on the archive as being a MSC >DAT transfer. This is likely the MSC that was used on that DAT transfer as the "Healy Weirdness" described during Desolation Row corresponds to a poorly patched tape flip. There are no dropouts in La Bamba on this recording. Flaws- This recording has the nasty digital static at the beginning of the show (Stranger) coming through with what sounds like Bob's vocal mic as his voice is all distorted while you can hear Jerry and Brent's ok. Tape flip during the first verse of Desolation Row patched from a similar sounding performance (no drums, just guitars/voices) on 5/10/87 using Wavelab. Tape flip durin Space was very short and crossfaded into near-imperceptiblity. ------------------------------ From: "pv34pv3p" Subject: Re: Gore 08 ??? Richfield? they all blur together after a while) selling burgers in the vending area before a Dead show. We ran out of burgers, I had a few hundred extra bucks in my pocket enough to get thru the next few shows. My friend found a dead squirrel in the bushes outside the parking lot. It was kind of a lame scene, I was already annoyed with the crowd and getting hit up by miracle ticket seekers every 30 seconds. So I threw the dead squirrel right on the grill. I started yelling "Get yer barbecued squirrel right here" Of course, it aroused the curiosity of the wandering masses. They began to gravitate toward as I shouted out like a carny barker "Barbecued squirrel here, free samples" People would come and curiously look, look at the grill. Their countenence would almost immedietly freeze in a blank stare, then a sneer of disgust before walking away. Some people stayed and yelled me. Someone even threw a beer can and it bounced off my car. It was starting to get ugly. I afraid there was going to be a riot and I was going to get injured. I thought everyone was going to think it was funny as I did but that clearly wasn't the case. I mean, hypocrites, I dont see the difference between eating squirrel or cow. I mean, damn, a dead squirrel on the grill. Its face even comically contorted to where it almost looked like my favorite cartoon character screwy Squirrel. Someone said "Hey are you crazy" and I yelled "No I am Napolean" just like the cartoon where Screwy Squirrel escapes from the asylum. But the crowd was getting larger and angrier. This biker guy and his lady had a look. She started crying. This guy grabbed and a pulled back his fist and said "I am gonna bust you up." I actually started to feel regret, and fear. I never thought a joke would turn ugly. Then suddenly these 2 cops come out of nowhere. "HEY Whats going on here" The biker lets go of me and blends into the crowd, which starts to scatter. The cop saw the squirrel. He got really pissed. I was holding too, I could almost see the prison doors close shut. He said "Is that your squirrel?" I meekly nodded. He said "I am arresting you for animal cruelty" He actually slapped the cuffs on me and had me against my car. His hands starting moving ominously towards my pockets. I said "but the squirrel is already dead, it was just a joke." He paused. "Did anyone actually eat any of that squirrel?" "No sir" He said "Throw that thing in the trash or you are going in for a public health hazard, disturbing the peace and whatever else I can think of" "Yes sir, I am sorry to cause a problem" He unlocked the cuffs, laughed and patted me on the back and said "I haven't seen the hippies this riled up since Kent State, I thought I was going to have to let loose the tear gas" He said "Clean up and enjoy the show" Him and his partner laughed and shook their heads and walked off. Close call. It was an awesome show, they played that song Touch Of Grey. Some people pointed and snickered at me inside but the vibe had long since returned to normal after I threw that poor dead squirrel away. ------------------------------ From: "pv34pv3p" Subject: Re: Gore 08 ???
