What do do with them Date: Fri, 23 Sep 2005 15:24:17 -0700 Not feeling well again today, stayed home to rest up. Got to be together for tomorrow's music in Berkeley. Doing a little hard drive cleanup, burning tunes, (coughing, shivering) and decided to look at the tapes that have been sitting here next to the computer in their carriers for oh, about five years or more. Give me some ideas here, folks. I worked through six carriers, and each holds 30 tapes. I figure out of the 180 tapes, I kept about 30 for sentimental reasons, or whatever. I filled a 12-bottle wine box with tapes, rubber banded by show. Looking at what else there is to go through, I will probably be able to fill at least three more boxes. Mine was a small collection, about a thousand hours tops. What am I gonna do with these? Hate to keep them ... I haven't listened to a tape in a couple of years, other than maybe in the car. They are just talking up space. There is very little there that I can't snag a better copy from the archive. Can't sell them ... wouldn't be ethical. Hate to give them away--lots of hours of my mis-spent middle age wrapped up in those tapes. Besides, who would want them. Hate to just toss them in the garbage. What have other folks done? Anyone come up with some creative ideas for their own tapes? Or do I just need to get over it, and either give them away or toss them? Both are singers, but don't expect bland pop-oriented vocal jazz - they tend to throw down and perform some real musician's stuff at the Mill. Nothing serious, of course, and a noontime dance with Geraldine made me forget all about today until tomorrow. Last night, that band was jamming at full throttle from the instant they took the stage. I knew that if I wanted to see The Allman Brothers again, that I was going to have to see Dickey Betts and Great Southern. They didn't disappoint. In fact, they were a lot hotter than the actual ABB band that I've since twice, post-Dickey. That said, his voice seems a little ravaged, but it balanced out with the Gregg-clone and with Dancing Susan. Great night, in an extremely cannabis- friendly club. That said...that last hour in there was uncomfortable. I got banged into about once a minute, mainly by fat drunk boys. But, aside from that, great night. Good thing I'm recuperated enough to go see The Mermen tonight at the Red Devil Lounge, 1695 Polk (at Clay) at 8PM for $10.
