IMHO one of their top 3 or 4 show openers > ever... be interested to hear your take on it. Well now ... yes! Very high energy. There are a couple of things that this version has going for it besides the tremendous energy groove. One is that Weir (I think) et al are doing some interesting harmonic things in the background, which is generally most apparent going into the leads. Good example at :55, and then best at 6:53-about 7:05. Just slightly different take on the chord structure that makes you want to say, "hey! that's cool". Nice to be able to hear Weir in the mix. The other thing I like a lot about it is that there are four very tasty Garcia solos in this particular version. You mentioned the nice Jack Straw going in, but neglected to mention that there is a great CC Rider on the other side that rawks ... Jerry does some fine blues licks, and there is a great B-3 solo ... So much music ... so little time. Date: Sat, 17 Sep 2005 22:09:34 -0400 Hello, My name is Bob Harris- you might have seen me play guitar with Vassar Clements over the years or heard him speak of me. Vassar is "family" and so, a request he made a few months back is very important for me to fulfill. Just to let you know- You are not on a mailing list or anything so, this will be the last letter I send, unless you want to correspond with me. For the past 4 years, Vassar and I have been working on a television series which is best described as a music version of "This Old House," a behind the scenes look into how we recorded his new CD(s) in the studio. All of the filming is finished- we have enough footage for an entire season. HIS WISHES ARE to get this on television. It's not easy getting a show on the air so in the meantime per his request, I promised Vassar to "Spread the word" as he put it, "Make sure and tell everyone." Please see Vassar's latest music video of "The Windjammer" at ampersandrecordsusa.com / The actual TV series goes behind the scenes and shows how we "build" each song. This is the first of many videos that we want to share. It's so important that his great music continues... The good news is: THERE IS A LOT MORE TO FOLLOW (leave it to Vassar to be able to do that)! So, if you have a few minutes, please see Vassar's video- e mail me with you comments/suggestions or to get updates for all the new releases. As I said, it's been difficult for us to get the TV show on the air- hopefully if enough people see it, the word will spread and the dream can come true. Sincerely, Bob Harris (908) 707-4987 (800) 378-9313 ============================================================================ - Hope you don't mind I share one funny story that happened about seven years ago in Nashville. If you ever hung out with Vassar, then I guarantee he put a smile on your face! VINTAGE VASSAR We were due at the RCA Studio for a recording session and took off from his house in Hermitage. He always said "You got to leave late to get there early," but for some reason this time, we took off too early. We got on Route 40 west and then a mile or so, the traffic came to a dead stop (the Vassar "leave late to get there early" rule in full effect). There were helicopters in the air, cops up ahead so obviously, there was a bit to do about something (we later found out that the President was landing at the airport, causing the jam). We sat there for about 10 minutes- I just watched Vass get more irritated with each passing second. Finally, he decided to turn around: "Hey, what are you doing" I said. "You can't do that, we'll get arrested"! "We gotta take a detour," he said with a determined look in his eyes. Well, anyone else would have slowly drove the car in reverse as to not draw attention..... but not Vassar. We were Eastbound in the Westbound shoulder lane, pedal to the medal! "Slow down man, you're gonna get us killed," I said while looking up at a helicopter seemingly following us. "The speed limit's 65, and I'm only 5 miles over" he said (a classic statement). We then flew up the off ramp, slowed almost immediately and made a lazzzzy left (as if he owned the roadway) and proceeded to the studio as if nothing happened. When we got to the studio... they had a radio on, all laughing while listening to the traffic helicopter reports about the jam on Route 40. We didn't know what was so funny, but this is what we heard: RADIO ANNOUNCER: "This report in from 20 minutes ago" HELICOPTER REPORTER (yelling in a thick southern accent): "SOME CRAZED FOOL JUST TURNED ROUND AND IS HEADED EASTBOUND IN THE WESTBOUND LANE! OH MY GOD!!! THIS IS CRAZY, AND HE'S GOIN' WAY TO FAST. SOMEONE FLAG DOWN AN OFFICER! PLEASE IF YOU ARE IN THE TRAFFIC, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IN THE SHOULDER! Vassar and I just looked at each other and fell out. We then admitted to everyone that it was us the reporter was talking about. Needless to say, the session didn't get started on time, as everyone went hysterical! ============================================================================ - No matter what the situation, Vassar was always able to make everyone around him laugh and be happy. For the remainder of my life, this is what I will truly miss the most. Do you have a good story about Vassar? Please share it with me! ------------------------------ From: "ck" Subject: Re: Anybody else get this?
