Ah ... this post is a leading candidate for most inane of the week, I think. The point being, of course, is that we should be prepared to accept the moral and professional failings of our political leaders and their families because, after all, "nobody's perfect". Of course, these very same people hate Clinton for his moral failings ... so it seems to be more a case of adjusting one's moral and ethical standards to one's political alignments. If it is Clinton, he besmirched the highest office in the land. If Bush ... well, ya know ... nobody's perfect. When using the "nobody's perfect" standard, Bush should be the poster child for the movement. He is about as far from perfect as we are apt to see in a U.S. president. I predict that junior will get off with a hand slap. Boys will be boys, y'know. Mummy and daddy support him. Of course, one could argue that the offspring of politicians are off limits, and that one incident does not constitute an epidemic. But, in reality ... it is more than one incident. It is a pattern of moral failings. Which then result in a pattern of legal failings. And, like Joe, I am coming to believe that those who want to come in here and minimize it all are fuckwits. Not deserving of respect. This is one of those rare occasions when I can't quibble with a RWNW. The families of politicians are no different than anyone else. Excepting those rare perfect people, we've all done things that could have landed us in jail, and I'm sure some of us have been arrested for one thing or another. The only problem I have is when the politicians are hypocrites and expect more lenient treatment for their own than they're willing to give others in the same circumstances. Besides the obvious fact that it would have been impossible to identify which 739 people out of the hundreds of thousands needed those air conditioners, and that many poor people couldn't afford to keep the air conditioners operating anyway, so many air-conditioners were being used during that heat wave that the city's electrical infrastructure was overwhelmed - a series of rolling blackouts left thousands without power. ________________________________ did you not understand? So PV, along with most of the rest of my post you avoided these questions: * Do you acknowledge that the Bush Adminstration's response during the first several days of the Katrina disaster was inexcusably poor? * And since you brought up federal intervention re- controlling heat wave fatalities, do you agree that the Bush Adminstration shouldn't have rolled back the Clinton Administration standards re- air conditioning units? And speaking of questions (and facts) that you are continuing to run away from (quite amusing to watch BTW, esp. from a guy who claims that those who disagree with him are in "retreat"), please directly answer these questions that I previously asked you to as well, thanks: * Why did you write "Don't start with that global warming shit again either..."? (A related question: Don't you think that the global warming is a relevent topic when discussing the hazards of heat waves?) * What gives you that impression that "most here don't recognize there are limits to what any emergency plan can accomplish"? Thanks in advance for your addressing these questions in a direct, clear, and straighforward manner instead of continuing to run away from them; thanks.
