The benefit itself is from 12-9 and includes great food and beer (FIGS is a sort of gourmet market/cafe). This event is actually their annual Oktoberfest beer festival (yeah, they know it's only September), and I was told they expect attendance to be about 700, so should be a lot of fun. We wrap the day up with a two hour set from 7 to 9 pm. We also have a bunch of other dates coming up in the area: 9.19 The Library, Chapel Hill 9.25 Carrboro Music Festival, Carrboro 9.30 Tir Na Nog, Raleigh 10.1 The Flipside, Clayton 10.14 The Tavern, Durham 10.15 Mannerland, Mebane See http://triplefret.com for show details, clips, etc. Thanks, Mike Babyak ------------------------------ From: "Steve Terry" Subject: Re: Condi, can I go wee wee ? While the latin-based stuff was excellent, they decided to do a jazz funeral version of Just A Closer Walk With Thee that was intense. The piano player for that selection was the in-exile director of the jazz orchestra in New Orleans. Irvin Mayfield still hasn't heard from his dad. Bill Summers rambled on and on about the cosmic significance of Katrina. The last tune was intense. Did I say it was intense? People were dancing, and during the traditional second line section, all the musicians were blowing. Unreal. I got the sense it was therapuetic for them to go back to tradition and veer off the normal setlist. Check 'em out if they are coming to your area. I was not aware that Jerry band covered this tune: http://www3.clearlight.com/~acsa/introjs.htm?/~acsa/songfile/JUSTACLO.HTM Old spiritual song ... often covered by traditional jazz bands as the structure of the tune makes it very amenable to jazzing up and playing up tempo in an ensemble, or slowing down in a blues/spiritutal delivery. Dude, they sell food there. But, it is usually pricey and of dubious quality. However, you can try the following if you like (provided that they are still set up the way they used to be): Go to one of the places that sell burgers. Across the way will be a condiment stand, with shredded lettuce, pickles, onions. Get you a couple of packets of mayo and a couple of packets of catsup. Mix together. Voila, thousand island dressing! Get you a big handful of shredded lettuce, place on several thicknesses of napkins. Dress with onion and pickle. Put on dressing. Find fork. There ya have it! Genuine tour-rat salad. Watched a guy make himself one of these at Shoreline once upon a time. R. ------------------------------ From: "Richard Morris" Subject: Re: Why don't I like Legion of Mary??? AUSTIN, Texas - The youngest son of Florida Governor Jeb Bush was arrested early Friday and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest, law enforcement officials said. John Ellis Bush, 21, was arrested by agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission at 2:30 a.m. on a corner of Austin's Sixth Street bar district, said commission spokesman Roger Wade. The nephew of President George W. Bush was released on $2,500 bond for the resisting arrest charge, and on a personal recognizance bond for the public intoxication charge, officials said. Wade said he had no further details about the charges. Governor Eb Bush and his wife Columba appeared Friday evening at a museum reception in Miami. "My son's doing fine. It's a private matter. We will support him. We're sad for him. But I'm not going to discuss it on the public square with 30 cameras," the governor told reporters. It's not the first time Florida's first family has experienced legal problems with one of their children. Noelle Bush, the governor's daughter, was arrested in January 2002 and accused of trying to pass a fraudulent prescription at a pharmacy to obtain the anti-anxiety drug Xanax. She completed a drug rehabilitation program in August 2003 and a judge dismissed the drug charges against her. bbb wrote: ***"My son's doing fine. It's a private matter. We will support him.
