As a follow up to the very helpful peer review session at the fall meeting of PNW-ASI in Portland, several Eugene indexers decided to conduct an ongoing monthly gathering for this purpose. We are pleased to report that our first session, held today, was a great success! With only a few days' notice of the event, attendance was light, but our motto was, "It just takes two to peer review!" Our primary focus was an index that one of our members had submitted for review by an indexer with many years of experience. We were all able to benefit from this input, to evaluate it and contribute our own. We enjoyed the process of examining the index in terms of structure, challenges posed, and other meaty issues! We envision this as an evolving process that is growth producing for all participants. As reviewed and reviewers, we learn to readily recognize qualities that make up a great index and to incorporate them into our work. We also increase our ability to support the professional growth of others. We plan to meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am at Cafe Marche on the upper level of the 5th Street Market (296 E. 5th Ave.) in Eugene. (There is free parking in the rear.) The sessions will last 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Plan to bring 4 copies of work you will be submitting for review. You make bring works-in-progress, practice indexes, submitted work. Next meeting will be December 7. Out-of-town drop ins are welcome!! Hope to you there!
