I got a message from Juno about "commercial" activities, which apparently includes introducing Shoveling Fuel. Fathom the irony! Apparently Juno blocked replies sent after the complaint. Before that happened, however, responses were rapid and positive. Prospects for "Americans Against Conspicuous Consumers" or "Scientists and Citizens for the Steady State Economy" are strong. If you responded after 9:56 EST on October 11, please try again with an original (i.e., non-reply) message and a different subject line. Or, you may drop me a line at 5101 S. 11th St., Arlington, VA, USA 22204. Some respondents suggested coalescence of the steady state revolution with relevant groups such as Center for a New American Dream or the International Society for Ecological Economics. That is a logical response and warrants consideration. I am a member of ISEE, support the Center, and am also a charter member of the American Society for Ecological Economics. However, I can vouch that the ecological economics movement, internationally and in the United States, has become far too fragmented for a focus on the steady state. I’m pretty sure that there is a niche and a supreme need for a society of citizens, professional and non-, for a group that focuses on replacing the national goal of economic growth with the goal of a steady state economy. (And - if this message gets past Juno - Shoveling Fuel describes why the need is supreme.) Thanks to obstructionists, my steady state revolution website may soon be gone, but count on it to arise somewhere else. Brian Czech Arlington, VA USA www.steadystate.org .
