I will send a longer response tomorrow, if possible, from campus. I favor inviting Jenny Sharpe; she would be a fabulous match with Lisa Lowe, as far as a speaker "series" goes, because she also seems interested in questions of immigration, and the imperialist machinations that contribute to the creation of diasporas. I like Rahul's suggestion about asking Lowe to address the links between globalization and immigration. I am also still very invested in the issue of creating transnational/interdisciplinary undergraduate courses, as well as how to "do things with texts" in the context of transnationalism, and these last two seem to me to be very related, and really fuzzy and vague in my head right now. For now, I think I should read the intro to _Politics of Culture_ before considering other questions. I agree with Todd's suggestion that we should read this piece together--could we consider doing this during Fall quarter (in clusters??)? Regarding dinner, I'm out of town Sept. 18-24, and I'm vegetarian (which isn't typically a problem at Asian or African restaurants).
