Last year the U District-University Partnership For Youth was asked to coordinate the activities in the U District for the first time, and some of you (or your students) participated. The idea is to get at least a rough count at about the same time each year, so service providers and decision-makers will know whether the homeless population is going up or down, or shifting from one part of the city to another. The date is now set for this year, and once again PFY has been asked to help with the count in the U District. If you wish to participate, there will be a brief training before we fan out in teams, using the forms developed by Operation Nightwatch. Our U District results will be collected and included in the city-wide count and presented immediately at a press conference. Date: Friday morning, October 23, 1998 Time: 2:00 a.m. (note this is AM) Place: University Heights; come in the North Door (U Heights is the old elementary school, now a community center, on 50th Street between University Ave and Brooklyn. Parking is available near the North door.) We will not be waking any homeless people, or interviewing anyone. This is designed to be non-intrusive. Those who participated last year know that it helps you see your community through new eyes when you are looking for places you might seek out if you were homeless and needing a safe, dry place to spend the night. Please join us. Nancy Amidei, Coordinator U District-University Partnership For Youth .
