I just happened to be talking to one of my contacts at the Computer Center today, and he told me about 'homer'. You may have noticed that carson is no longer accepting new accounts; homer is the successor / replacement for carson. If a new user wants an account on carson, they should create their new account on homer instead. BUT ... If you already have an account on carson DO NOT MOVE TO HOMER NOW !!! Homer is a brand-new system. Do you want to help debug it? No. In fact, there have been so many people moving from carson to homer, that there have been problems; CAC has removed the message telling people to move. My contact at CAC suggests waiting until you see another message urging carson users move to homer. Let the people who are already there get settled in, and get the (minor) bugs out of the system; then you can move -- if you want to. If you are satisfied with carson, you don't need to move at all -- at least not for a while; no date has been announced for carson's removal. Why install homer? Because it will allow many more accounts than carson can handle, and it will be easier to expand when more capacity is needed; it will also be faster (at least that's the plan). SOOOO... - If you are currently using carson, continue to do so for now. - If you have moved to homer, DO NOT use your old account on carson. Questions? Ask me (so I can find out), or send email to 'help@cac'. --mr .
