Are they as fast as regular drives? I use one to transfer data too (i had forgotten) from my GPS enabled laptop to a work station. USB pen/flash drives are great - although mine has started to get wonky (do I get points for my usage of the special technical term?) after a year. But it's seen a lot of use, and was not one of the better ones. However, one thing to be aware is if one is running lower than Win 2000, one will need to restart the computer in order for the drive to be recognized. For W2K and above, they're fantastic!! In that vein, I find a USB flash hard drive to be the sneakernet of the 21st Century. I have a .5GB Pen Drive (www.pendrive.com) that goes between any computers with a USB port, and at least with MacOS and Windows it is automatically recognized as an external drive. It has worked flawlessly for over a year of heavy use. I Googled "pen drive" and saw an ad for a 1GB unit for $89, and there are units up to 8GB! One thing to note is the read/write speed; better ones are noticeably faster at writing.
