I am happy to announce that our Pamphlet #3: Guidelines for Freshman & Transfer Applicants Whose First Language Is Not English is now on the Web in its entirety. URL: www.washington.edu/students/uga/tr/reqs/details/esl.htm This page should be consulted by all applicants who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or refugees and whose first language is not English or who have attended school in a non-English speaking country. It describes alternative paths for fulfilling the English and foreign language core requirements for admission and the English Proficiency Requirement for UW graduation. Special thanks to Kim Cowan, UW international admissions coordinator, for her excellent contributions to this page. She has added examples (they appear as popup windows) to help applicants distinguish between Alternatives One and Two for fulfilling the English core requirement for admission. All of her changes and additions will eventually make their way into the paper version of UGA #3, the next time we reprint. In the meantime, please refer -- and refer your students -- to the web page.
