The latest development is this: We have been offered a raise of nearly 21%. The union, which waited nearly a month after the administration's offer to make a counter-offer (and made it only about 72 hours before their strike deadline), has called a strike for today at noon. Because of the way the strike vote was conducted (giving no opportunity to those off-campus to cast a vote) the strike will be illegal under provincial labour law (it also violated the union's own constitution). The union has never given the membership an opportunity to vote on the salary offer. For classical content: can anyone think of a comparable mass suicide in antiquity?
