This may not specifically refer you to the precise info you request on numbers
but you might want to check out several books...one is AFRICA COUNTS by Claudia Zaslavsky.  The other is MATHEMATICAL ENCULTURATION by Alan Bishop.  In this
book the concept of counting as a universal cultural activity is described
and provides intriguing information.  Hope this helps.  Have to run but will
