I've use and have success with xine. Mplayer is another good one(or so
I've heard).
Are you looking at only playing mpeg 1 or are you looking at other
formats also, such as mpeg 2 and divx? Xine and Mplayer should play
all of those. Smpeg should really be working well with mpeg 1.
