To: ph-assess@u.washington.edu Subject: Vista 9.0 Release Watch X-mailer: Connect2-SMTP 4.00 MHS to SMTP Gateway In order to keep everyone informed as to the status of the new release of Vista I will be posting an update every couple of days until it is out. Currently, we are planning to delay a couple more days so that Jim can install the new zipcode and block group denominator estimates that are compatible with the latest OFM estimates this WEEKEND (GO Jim GO). At first we were reluctant to hold up the release any further but, DSHS is very optimistic about the quality of the data and has worked really hard to get it to us in a timely fashion in the format Jim requested for Vista so, we are going to include it. We will be switching from 1996 zip code geography to 1998 zips. In addition to installing the population data, we will need to reinstall 1997 numerator data for births, deaths, hospitalizations, and communicable diseases. I will be available on Friday and Monday to do these installations and validate the data as fast as possible. This should be our last delay. As many of you know there was a glitch in the new setup program for Vista that seems to be worked out now (except on my computer). I think you will all like the new setup program! I installed the first 1998 data into the new release - thanks to the TB program! I am hoping to install the 1998 STD data as well. Additionally, the '98 birth data (preliminary release) will be installed in Vista 9.0. This requires a BIG round of applause to the Center for Health Statistics staff who are setting a new record for the earliest release of birth data ever. Jim had originally planned to have a working copy of the Vista web version ready by May 1. However, that was based on his full-time disappearance into Vistaland all of April to develop it. With the delays in releasing Vista 9.0 the web version of Vista will be ready around June 1. The Vista partnership team would like to apologize for the delays in releasing Vista 9.0. We share your frustrations and hope that you will continue to be patient. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Look for another update on Monday... Julie Alessio The VISTA Coordinator .
