Should be 3-4 hours at a chill but consistent (i.e. no stops) pace. I noticed a few things this weekend and I thought I would offer my two cents. If you hate me or don't care stop reading now. First and foremost, ride smart. Focus on being a smooth, consistent rider and don't worry about correcting the other sketch balls...they will learn. Also along the lines of being smart; don't sit 5m off the front of a group (unless it is at the finish line), you are just wasting energy. I saw several people doing this in the crit when they could just as easily have dropped back into the pack and conserved energy. It's one thing to attack it's another to just sit at or off the front and drag the group around. Second, put your head down and hang on when you have to. When the pack accelerates grab a wheel and fight to stay on, more than likely they will let up soon. This hurts really bad sometimes but expending extra energy is worth it to stay with the group and not have to bridge back up. Third, work as a team. Right now things don't look too good for us as far as points are concerned but we can still do ok. If we could somehow catch U of O then we would definitely be able to send some folks to nationals. According to Bill Wykoff there are 10 spots each for men and women. The top 2 teams in Washington and Oregon get 4 spots each and the other 2 go to the top individuals not on those teams. But, if the teams don't send 4 then there are more individual spots left. I though it was 10 spots in the conference but supposedly the Idaho and Montana schools have their own allotment? What this means is - if you can score a bunch of points in your cat then do it as this moves us closer to securing a team spot. If you can help another rider who has a chance to qualify for nationals based on placement, then do it...we are a team, work as a team. Most importantly, put the hurt on all WSU and U of O riders. Keep an eye on them at all times and do everything you can to stay ahead of them...cover their attacks, take their premes, etc. Looks like we will have a strong team this weekend. I for one am starting to get my legs back and I am super motivated to race, win and go to Berkley for Nats! Sorry for the spew but I am getting really pysched for these next few races and I know we can do well. Train hard!
