(I also posted a letter on slavic-uw at that time.) The letter thus refers to the then presupposed Legislature-mandated $12 million cuts for the University of Washington, which have since not materialized. The P-I never called me to verify the letter and ask if I wanted to have it printed unchanged almost a month later. I talked to one of their editors, and sent in a following statement for publication: "My letter on the University of Washington's proposed budget cuts (published on April 6) was written in the middle of March, and refers to the then presupposed legislature mandated $12 million budget cuts for the University of Washington. The education budget that is currently under consideration at the Washington State House and Senate is better than the one expected in March, does not include $12 million cuts, and would not justify University of Washington's administration's elimination of ANY departments or schools."
