Where and why do you think his Iliad not equirhythmical? There are only two books where he differs from Monro and Allen, in each case by a single line. 2. It's nonsense to say Lattimore has written "very rough" hexameters. He isn't writing hexameters at all. He's writing a well- regulated six-stress accentual line, the same used most recently by Peter Green in his Argonautica. Properly handled, accentual verse is not inherently rough, but if that's your position, demonstrate it. ============================================== Steven J.
