The copyright and royalty charges will be removed from LINZ held digital data in November. No idea what the cost will be. Now the cost of a city street data for a small city (Christchurch ~pop 3000000) is around NZ$3000 or US$1500 For a price, excellent NZ street data can be got from http://www.critchlow.co.nz. Echoing Lisel comments, the closest we get to free street data is the Digital Chart of The World at 1:1,000,000. Even then, LINZ (Land Information New Zealand) argue that they have copyright to the data and must pay them royalty to use it!!!!!! Hopefully this will change next month.
