Light winds, clear skies and cool temperatures at night combined with warm temperatures higher in the atmosphere are trapping air pollution near the ground. The National Weather Service has issued an Air Stagnation Advisory for the entire state. A strong, stable high-pressure system will dominate our weather and affect air quality into and through the weekend. Air pollution is expected to rise, particularly in residential areas where use of fireplaces and wood stoves is common. Air quality is "Moderate" (Yellow) on the Air Quality Index and likely will hit Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (Orange) Friday through Sunday. Clean Air Agency meteorologists will continue to monitor weather conditions and pollution levels, and will call a burn ban if levels rise over the current Washington State trigger. YOU CAN HELP by not using a fireplace or uncertified wood stove until the weather changes. Driving also hurts air quality. Use your U-PASS and carpool, take the bus, walk, bike, combine errands or telework if you can. Thank you for helping protect the air we breathe. ****************************************************************************** University of Washington Transportation Office Box 355212 1127 N.E.
