James The First Annual Campus-wide Diversity Fair will take place on Saturday April 10th in Kane Hall. The event will feature opening speakers: President McCormick Myron Apilado, VP Minority Affairs (EOP) A representative from the Alumni Association A student panel Representatives from Financial Aid, School of Medicine, Law school, Dept Philosophy, School of Business, School of Engineering, and more have offered to set up tables for the event. This fair is a product of a few students in health sciences and we really need HELP to make it a success. Examples of the things we need to address in the next few weeks include: Plan details for the day of the event- -commitments from departments -set up and break down -refreshments -set up student panel -ways to make parking and finding the fair on campus as easy as possible, etc. Get the word out- -We need to contact the local press (the Daily, the Weekly, PI, campus papers at local comm clgs, etc) -contacts for seattle schools and target minority communities -meet with campus organizations that might aid in getting the word out -distributing flyers (mid March) The Diversity Fair is going to be an annual event, but a lot rides on the success of this first year. A meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb 18th at 5:30pm, in the Asian/Pacific Islander Rm of the Ethnic Cultural Center. If you cannot make the meeting, but would like to volunteer for something contact either: Rose James (rdjames@u.washington.edu) Manuel Sierra (msierra@u.washington.edu) We appreciate any support you can give us.
